The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) has expressed strong solidarity and full support with the ongoing struggle of teachers, professors, assistant professors, librarians, and computer teachers associated with Punjab University, Chandigarh and other government colleges across Punjab.
In a statement issued today, NAPA Executive Director Satnam Singh Chahal said that the demands being raised by nearly 1150 professors, assistant professors, librarians, and computer teachers are completely justified and reflect the deep frustration among the teaching community, which has been facing neglect and apathy from the Punjab Government.
Chahal said that these educators form the backbone of Punjab’s higher education system and yet they are forced to protest for their legitimate rights, which is shameful for any government that claims to prioritize education. NAPA stands firmly with them in their struggle for justice and better service conditions.
He further warned the Punjab Government to immediately accept the genuine demands of these teaching professionals to prevent the situation from escalating. “If the government continues to ignore their voice, it will only deepen the crisis in Punjab’s education sector,” Chahal cautioned.
He reiterated that NAPA, along with the Punjabi diaspora, will continue to raise this issue at international forums to ensure that the teachers of Punjab get the dignity, recognition, and respect they deserve.
