Amritsar/Delhi: During this week, a flight from the United States carrying approximately 200 deported Indian nationals arrived in India. While the exact number of individuals from Punjab is not yet confirmed, previous patterns suggest a significant proportion of deportees originate from the state. Among them was alleged gangster Anmol Bishnoi, who was immediately taken into custody by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
NAPA, under the leadership of Satnam Singh Chahal, expresses deep concern for the welfare of the young Punjabi men and women who return to India under such circumstances. Many of these individuals face severe social, financial, and psychological challenges upon deportation. Without proper support, they are vulnerable to marginalization, unemployment, and societal stigma, which can push them into further adverse circumstances.
NAPA demands that:
-
The Government of India, in coordination with the Punjab Government, will immediately provide financial assistance to deported youth from Punjab.
-
A structured rehabilitation and skill-development program should be implemented to help these young people reintegrate into society productively.
-
Special attention be given to ensure counselling and legal guidance, particularly for those who may be falsely implicated or stigmatised.
Satnam Singh Chahal stated, “Our youth returning from foreign deportation need immediate support, not neglect. Rehabilitation and financial assistance are crucial to prevent them from falling into despair or criminal networks. Punjab as a society cannot abandon them at this critical juncture.”
NAPA urges all concerned authorities to act swiftly and ensure that these deported Punjabis are given a fair chance to rebuild their lives with dignity.
