Fatehgarh Sahib-Paying homage to the unparalleled martyrdom of the younger Sahibzadas of the Tenth Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji—Sahibzada Baba Zorawar Singh (9 years), Sahibzada Baba Fateh Singh (7 years)—and Mata Gujri Ji, the District Akali Jatha Fatehgarh Sahib and the Youth Akali Dal, under the directions of Shiromani Akali Dal President S. Sukhbir Singh Badal Ji, organised a two-day ‘Dastaran Da Langar’ at Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, as has been done every year, to offer their tributes.
This special initiative was organised under the ‘Meri Dastar, Meri Shaan’ campaign under the leadership of Youth Akali Dal President Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer, with the primary objective of connecting Sikh youth with their religious identity, history, and the great Sikh heritage. The camp was inaugurated with an Ardas by the Head Granthi of Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, Bhai Harpal Singh Ji.
As every year, lakhs of devotees from across the country and abroad reached Sri Fatehgarh Sahib to pay their respects. During the ‘Dastaran Da Langar’, more than 500 devotees—including children, youth, and elderly—were tied free dastars and were educated about the importance and significance of the turban.
Addressing the gathering, Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer said that the martyrdom of the younger Sahibzadas and Mata Gujri Ji is an immortal example in Sikh history, teaching us unwavering faith in religion, courage, and supreme sacrifice. He said that remaining steadfast to one’s faith despite facing extreme oppression at such a tender age is an unparalleled example that will continue to inspire generations to come.
Jhinjer said that Sikh youth should draw inspiration from the lives and teachings of the younger Sahibzadas and imbibe truthfulness, fearlessness, and devotion to faith in their own lives.
On this occasion, Core Committee Member S. Gurpreet Singh Raju Khanna, District President S. Sarnjit Singh Chanathal, and SGPC Member Avtar Singh Riya said that the turban is not only the identity of Sikhism but also the sacred crown bestowed by the Guru Sahiban. “It is our duty to preserve our religious and cultural heritage and to continue such initiatives to keep the younger generation connected with Sikhism.”
Jhinjer further said that the Youth Akali Dal will expand the ‘Meri Dastar, Meri Shaan’ campaign across various districts of Punjab in the coming times so that a larger number of youth can reconnect with Sikh identity.
Those present on the occasion included Core Committee Member S. Gurpreet Singh Raju Khanna, SGPC Member S. Surjit Singh Garhi, Darbara Singh Guru, District President S. Sarnjit Singh Chanathal, SGPC Member Avtar Singh Riya, former Chairman Baljit Singh Bhutta, and Harpreet Singh Ritchi, among others.
