NAPA Expresses Concern Over Allegations of Punjab CM Attending Assembly Under Influence

The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) Executive Director, Satnam Singh Chahal, has expressed serious concern over allegations made by opposition parties that the Punjab Chief Minister attended a recent Assembly session under the influence of alcohol.

In a statement issued today, Chahal said that such allegations, if proven true, strike at the very dignity and sanctity of democratic institutions. He emphasized that elected representatives, especially those holding the highest offices, are expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct and responsibility.

“These reports are deeply troubling. The legislative assembly is a temple of democracy, and any behavior that undermines its dignity cannot be taken lightly,” Chahal stated.

He further added that while allegations in politics are not uncommon, the seriousness of this issue demands clarity and transparency. “The people of Punjab deserve to know the truth. If the allegations are baseless, they should be clearly refuted. If there is any substance, accountability must follow without delay,” he said.

Chahal urged for an impartial inquiry into the matter to ensure that public trust in democratic institutions is not eroded. He also called upon all political parties to rise above partisan politics and maintain the decorum of the House.

“The focus must remain on governance and public welfare. Incidents like these distract from real issues affecting the people and weaken faith in leadership,” he added.

The NAPA leader concluded by reiterating the need for ethical leadership and responsible political conduct, stating that democracy thrives only when its institutions are respected and upheld in both letter and spirit.
