Parliament Session Ends: MP Preet Kaur Gill Highlights Government Achievements for Families, NHS and Communities

London-Preet Kaur Gill has shared a detailed summary of the UK Government’s achievements after the first Parliament session officially prorogued following 22 weeks of proceedings. In her statement, she highlighted a series of measures aimed at supporting working families, improving healthcare services, strengthening local communities and introducing major legislative reforms across the country.

The MP stated that one of the Government’s key priorities has been reducing financial pressure on households. According to her update, energy bills have been cut by more than £100, while increases in the minimum wage are intended to provide relief to workers struggling with the rising cost of living. She also pointed toward expanded childcare support, including 30 hours of free childcare, and the introduction of free breakfast clubs for children, including eight schools in Birmingham, Edgbaston.

Gill further emphasised support for senior citizens through an increase in the state pension by up to £575 annually. She also highlighted new rights and protections introduced for workers and renters, saying these reforms are designed to provide greater economic and social security to ordinary citizens. Another major announcement mentioned in her statement was the decision to scrap the two-child limit, a move she said would help lift many children out of poverty.

In the education sector, the Government announced investment in new school-based nurseries, including facilities at Our Lady Fatima and World’s End schools. The MP described these developments as part of a broader effort to improve opportunities for children and support working parents.

On healthcare, Gill said the Government has delivered over five million additional NHS appointments while also reducing waiting lists. She noted that more than 2,000 additional General Practitioners (GPs) have been recruited and plans are underway to establish new Neighbourhood Health Centres in every community. The Government has also committed £26 billion in investment toward the National Health Service, which she described as a major boost for public healthcare.

For local communities, Gill highlighted nearly £6 billion allocated to the “Pride in Place” regeneration programme, aimed at giving local residents greater control over development and improvement projects in their own areas. Public safety initiatives were also mentioned, including the recruitment of 3,000 new neighbourhood police officers, reportedly achieved two months ahead of schedule.

Environmental and cleanliness measures formed another part of the Government’s agenda. Gill referenced a new Waste Action Plan that will require illegal dumping sites to be cleared while holding offenders accountable for cleaning affected streets and public spaces.

The MP also noted that Parliament passed 64 bills into law during the session, bringing reforms across multiple government departments. She said she was proud to be part of a government focused on delivering practical results for citizens and pledged to continue updating constituents on government actions once Parliament reconvenes.
