Oppression of the poor at the behest of a power-drunk MLA is unacceptable – Brahmpura

Tarn Taran – Taking strict cognizance of police inaction following an arson attack on a Dalit family’s residence in village Voin Poin, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), New Delhi, has issued a final 7-day ultimatum to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Tarn Taran.
The strict directive follows rigorous legal pursuit by former Khadoor Sahib MLA and Shiromani Akali Dal Vice President, Ravinder Singh Brahmpura. Issuing its second and final reminder on June 8, 2026, the Commission demanded an immediate action-taken report. The NCSC noted with grave concern that the district police failed to respond to prior notices issued on April 20 and May 7, 2026, regarding the complaint filed by a Dalit widow, Dalbir Kaur (FIR No. 0167, dated April 1, 2026).
In the press release, Brahmpura stated that a newly elected MLA, blinded by the intoxication of power, is orchestrating blatant atrocities against marginalized communities through his associates. Terming the arson attack and the subsequent vindictive targeting of the victims as a “murder of democracy,” he asserted that ensuring justice and acting as a shield for the poor is his foremost constitutional and moral responsibility towards the constituency.
Citing the Constitution, Brahmpura issued a stern warning to erring administrative officials, reminding them that the NCSC possesses the vast powers of a civil court under Article 338. He clarified that any ‘compromise’ extorted from the victim family under physical, financial, or political duress holds absolutely zero legal validity.
“The Commission’s strict intervention is a necessary lesson for officials who function as political lackeys rather than upholding the law. From now on, authorities will think a hundred times before committing excesses against the poor, knowing well that constitutional bodies are capable of holding them accountable,” Brahmpura emphasized.
Reiterating his commitment to the principles laid down by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Brahmpura stated that protecting the constitutional rights of equality and security for marginalized sections is the primary duty of every responsible public representative. Assuring the residents of Khadoor Sahib of his unwavering support, he pledged to fight this battle at the highest legal levels.
“High-level monitoring of this case will continue relentlessly until the victim family receives absolute justice and statutory compensation as mandated by law,” Brahmpura concluded
