Birmingham, UK: Member of Parliament Preet Kaur Gill has highlighted the growing potential of Britain’s HealthTech sector after convening a meeting with leading healthcare technology organizations and industry representatives to discuss how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can drive innovation and improve patient care across the National Health Service (NHS).

The roundtable brought together representatives from the Association of British HealthTech Industries (ABHI), Technology Trade Association, British In Vitro Diagnostics Association (BIVDA), British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA), AXREM, and the Start-up Coalition. The discussions focused on the opportunities and challenges facing HealthTech SMEs and the support needed to help them expand their impact across the UK.

Gill emphasized that innovation is taking place in every corner of the country and that smaller businesses are playing an increasingly important role in developing cutting-edge healthcare technologies. She said that by backing HealthTech SMEs, the government can help create skilled jobs, stimulate economic growth, and deliver advanced technologies that improve care for NHS patients.

The Birmingham Edgbaston MP noted that the HealthTech sector has the potential to transform healthcare delivery through digital innovation, medical devices, diagnostics, and emerging technologies. She stressed that continued collaboration between policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators is essential to ensure that the NHS benefits from the latest technological advancements while supporting home-grown businesses.

Gill also reiterated her commitment to promoting innovation and investment within her constituency, including Birmingham, Edgbaston, Harborne, Quinton, and North Edgbaston, stating that supporting innovative local enterprises will strengthen both the regional economy and the UK’s healthcare system.

The meeting reflects the growing national focus on accelerating the adoption of innovative healthcare solutions while ensuring that British SMEs remain at the forefront of medical technology development. Industry leaders welcomed the opportunity to engage directly with policymakers on ways to remove barriers to innovation and expand access to NHS markets.
