Raipur (Punjab): British Labour MP Tan Dhesi recently visited his ancestral village, Raipur. Sharing his experience with Punjab Outlook, Dhesi said he was touched by the reception in his ancestral village and pleased to see the latest changes and development works taking place in the area.
During the visit, villagers showed the MP various projects and improvements that they had campaigned for and worked to secure, including developments related to the local school, stadium, gym, Gurdwara, roads and other community infrastructure.
Dhesi said it was particularly encouraging to see residents actively working to improve their village and ensure that important local needs receive attention.
The visit also provided an opportunity for Dhesi to reconnect with people in the village and see first-hand the progress of projects that are important to the local community.
“Touched by the very warm welcome in my ancestral village Raipur in Punjab,” Dhesi said, while highlighting the development work shown to him by villagers.
The visit reflects the continuing connection maintained by Dhesi with his ancestral village and Punjab despite his political responsibilities in the United Kingdom.
For the residents of Raipur, the visit was also an opportunity to showcase the work they have campaigned for and the changes they hope will further improve facilities for the community.
Dhesi’s visit comes amid growing interest among the Punjabi diaspora in maintaining links with their ancestral villages and contributing to local development.
From classrooms to community facilities, roads to religious institutions, the message from Raipur was clear: development becomes meaningful when local residents themselves have a voice in shaping their communities.
