AMRITSAR, Punjab —The North America Punjabi Association(NAPA) have issued a strong warning to the global Sikh community (Sangat) to beware of fabricated news stories circulating in sections of the media aimed at tarnishing the image and lowering the prestige of Shri Akal Takht Sahib.
In a signed statement, key figures within the Sikh community have identified a “deliberate and coordinated effort” by certain media factions to disseminate “cooked stories” and misinformation. The statement emphasises that these narratives are designed to sow confusion, sow discord, and weaken the temporal and spiritual authority the Akal Takht holds over the Panth (the Sikh community).
NAPA Executive Director Satnam Singh Chahal voiced significant concern regarding this pattern. “There is a visible section of the media that seems bent upon lowering the image of Shri Akal Takht Sahib,” Chahal said “We have observed several narratives, entirely divorced from fact, that are being presented as news. These are cooked stories, carefully crafted to mislead.”
Chahal further elaborated on the motives behind such actions. “Shri Akal Takht Sahib is the heart of Sikh temporal authority and a symbol of unity. When its image is deliberately attacked through misinformation, it is an attack on the entire community. They want the public to question their supreme institution.”
The recent statement urges the Sikh Sangat to verify any information related to the Akal Takht, especially if it contradicts established Panthic conventions or historical facts. The NAPA noted that many of these fake narratives utilize sensationalism and “cooked” details to provoke emotional reactions rather than convey objective truths.
Chahal highlighted that the threat is not just limited to traditional news outlets but is significantly amplified through social media platforms, where unverified claims can spread rapidly. “The Sangat must be extremely careful about what they read and share online,” the joint statement advised.
“People should be aware and reject this propaganda,” the statement from the NAPA firmly declared. The community is being called upon to actively verify information through official SGPC channels or trusted Panthic sources before accepting it as truth.
The current atmosphere demands a high level of media literacy within the community to identify biased journalism. By remaining vigilant and refusing to give credence to “cooked stories,” the global Sikh Sangat can protect the sanctity and uphold the dignity of Shri Akal Takht Sahib.
