Majithia Accuses AAP Govt of Betraying Local Youth, Protesters Lathi-Charged”

Bikram Singh Majithia, a former Punjab Cabinet Minister and senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader, has strongly criticised the AAP government over alleged favouritism in Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL) recruitments. In a tweet posted on July 17, 2026, Majithia claimed that recent appointments in PSTCL have gone entirely to candidates from Rajasthan, particularly from Sri Ganganagar district, while not a single Punjabi youth received an opportunity.

He accused the government of showing hostility toward local youth by using police force, including baton charges, against those peacefully demanding their rightful share of jobs. Majithia described the AAP regime as a “puppet government” that favours outsiders while treating Punjabis harshly, questioning what kind of justice allows jobs in a Punjab-owned corporation to be given to non-locals.

This controversy arises amid ongoing recruitment drives in PSTCL and its sister organisation PSPCL for various technical and clerical posts. Punjab-trained apprentices and local diploma/degree holders have been protesting for priority in regular jobs, citing their experience. Some demonstrations have turned tense, leading to police action. The AAP government, on the other hand, has highlighted its merit-based recruitment policy and claimed to have provided tens of thousands of government jobs in recent years.

Majithia’s allegations reflect a broader political debate in Punjab over employment, local preferences, and domicile rules in public sector recruitments. Such issues often become flashpoints ahead of elections, with opposition parties accusing the ruling dispensation of neglecting Punjabi youth. Official details on the specific appointments can be verified on the PSTCL website.
