Jalandhar-Pargat Singh has strongly questioned Arvind Kejriwal over the financial promises made to the people of Punjab before the 2022 Assembly elections, raising concerns about the state government’s growing debt and its handling of employee dues.
In a sharp statement issued during Kejriwal’s recent visit to Punjab, Pargat Singh said Punjabis deserve clear answers regarding the Aam Aadmi Party’s pre-election guarantee that ₹54,000 crore would be brought annually into Punjab’s treasury after the formation of the government.
According to Pargat Singh, despite tall claims made during the election campaign, the financial condition of Punjab continues to remain under pressure. He alleged that instead of generating additional revenue, the state government has been forced to rely heavily on loans to manage its expenditures.
The Congress MLA pointed out that in the last two months alone, the Punjab government has reportedly taken loans amounting to nearly ₹6,500 crore. He questioned how the government could justify increasing debt while simultaneously claiming that Punjab’s economy was improving under its administration.
Pargat Singh also criticized the government over the issue of Dearness Allowance (DA) for employees. Referring to the ongoing legal battle regarding DA payments, he alleged that the government is spending public money in courts to deny employees what they rightfully deserve instead of clearing pending dues.
He further accused the government of prioritizing publicity campaigns and advertisements over the welfare of employees and the financial stability of the state. According to him, crores of rupees are being spent on promotional activities while government workers continue to wait for financial relief.
The MLA said that before leaving Punjab, Arvind Kejriwal should explain to the people where the promised ₹54,000 crore revenue model has gone and why ordinary citizens are not seeing the economic transformation that was projected during the election campaign.
The remarks come at a time when debates over Punjab’s rising debt, employee benefits, and fiscal management continue to dominate political discussions in the state. Opposition parties have repeatedly targeted the ruling Aam Aadmi Party government over borrowing, unemployment, and delays in employee-related payments.
Political observers believe that financial accountability and delivery of election promises may become major issues in Punjab politics in the coming months, especially as opposition leaders continue intensifying pressure on the state government over governance and economic management.
Pargat Singh concluded by stating that Punjabis had voted with hope for economic reform and transparency and that the government now has a responsibility to provide honest answers regarding its promises and financial policies.
