Faridkot: Congress MLA and former Punjab Education Minister Pargat Singh has raised serious concerns over alleged scams and administrative irregularities at Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, calling for a fair, impartial and independent investigation.
In a statement following his press conference on Friday, Pargat Singh said the allegations surrounding the university were serious enough to warrant a transparent probe and that anyone found responsible should be held accountable.
The controversy comes amid growing scrutiny of the university’s recruitment and examination processes. Earlier this month, the university’s Board of Management ordered a review of appointments made between June 2025 and July 1, 2026. Nearly 180 appointments were placed in abeyance pending scrutiny after complaints and concerns were raised regarding compliance with administrative procedures.

The university has also been at the centre of controversy following the Pharmacy Officer Recruitment Examination for 454 posts. Police uncovered an organised cheating network during the examination, with arrests and recoveries of electronic devices used allegedly to facilitate cheating.
Pargat Singh has previously demanded an impartial investigation into the pharmacy examination controversy, arguing that questions surrounding examination protocols and security cannot simply be ignored because the future of thousands of young candidates is involved.
The latest allegations have now widened the debate beyond one examination to the overall functioning of the university. Reports on Friday said Pargat Singh alleged financial irregularities involving hundreds of crores of rupees and questioned issues including procurement, appointments and the implementation of projects. These remain allegations and require verification through an independent investigation.
The central question now is whether the Punjab Government will order a genuinely independent investigation rather than allowing the controversy to become another political confrontation. A credible inquiry should examine the allegations, procurement records, recruitment procedures, examination security and financial decisions, while giving all concerned parties a fair opportunity to respond.
For students, employees and ordinary citizens, the issue is ultimately about institutional credibility and public trust. Baba Farid University is a major public health sciences institution, and any proven wrongdoing must be dealt with firmly. At the same time, allegations must be established through evidence and due process.
Pargat Singh’s demand for a fair and impartial investigation therefore puts the responsibility squarely on the Punjab Government and university authorities: investigate the allegations transparently, make the findings public and hold accountable anyone against whom wrongdoing is established.
