BRAMPTON, ONTARIO: Peel Regional Police have charged three men after officers seized a loaded illegal handgun during a traffic stop in Brampton early Monday morning, marking the 112th crime gun seized by the force in 2026.
Police said officers from the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau were investigating a vehicle at approximately 2:20 a.m. on August 10 in the area of Cedarbrook Road and Edgewater Court when they encountered three occupants inside the vehicle.
During the interaction, one of the occupants allegedly provided officers with a false name before fleeing the area on foot. Officers searched the vehicle and located a loaded illegal handgun with a magazine containing ammunition.
The individual who fled was later located in another area and arrested. Police said they subsequently determined that he was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Alberta.
The accused have been identified as 29-year-old Navjot Singh of Innisfail, Alberta; 29-year-old Harkomal Singh of Brampton; and 23-year-old Mohobbatbir Randhawa of Brampton.
All three face charges of unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, and tampering with the serial number of a firearm.
Navjot Singh faces additional charges of obstructing a peace officer and failing to comply with an undertaking.
Peel Regional Police said the latest seizure brings the number of crime guns recovered by the force this year to 112, including 37 firearms seized during traffic stops.
Deputy Chief Marc Andrews said officers were confronted with a rapidly developing situation but remained focused on identifying and accounting for everyone involved. He emphasized that removing firearms from the community helps prevent potential threats and said police will continue efforts to keep unauthorized weapons out of the hands of individuals who are not legally permitted to possess them.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact investigators with the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau at 905-453-2121, extension 2133.
The accused are facing criminal allegations, and the charges have not been proven in court.
