Santosh Kumar Patra Identified as Victim in Fatal Mississauga Hit-and-Run; One Arrested

Mississauga, ON – Investigators from the Peel Regional Police Major Collision Bureau have made an arrest in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of 56-year-old Santosh Kumar Patra of Mississauga.

The tragic incident occurred on Friday, November 14, at approximately 9:05 p.m., when a Mini Cooper struck a pedestrian at the intersection of Eglinton Avenue West and Fallingbrook Drive. The driver fled the scene without stopping to assist the victim.

At the request of the family, police have publicly identified the deceased as Santosh Kumar Patra, a Mississauga resident.

During the investigation, officers conducted an extensive canvass of the area and recovered CCTV footage showing the suspect removing the vehicle’s rear licence plate and hiding it in the trunk before driving away.

On Tuesday, November 18, investigators located the vehicle involved and arrested Romany Elhariry, 46, of Mississauga. He is charged with:

Elhariry’s first court appearance is scheduled for December 22, 2025, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

Peel Regional Police expressed gratitude to community members who provided video evidence and information, which played a critical role in identifying the suspect.
