MELBOURNE: Members of the Sikh and Catholic communities in Australia will come together in Melbourne for a special interfaith dialogue focused on compassion, shared values and points of commonality between Sikh and Catholic thought. Organised as an initiative of the National Sikh Organisation, the event will feature a shared panel discussion bringing members of both faith communities together to explore their respective traditions and areas of common understanding. The programme will also highlight the rich history and contribution of the Sikh community in Australia. The dialogue will combine religious and cultural exchange, with participants also experiencing traditional Punjabi food, refreshments and music, creating an informal setting for community members from both traditions to interact and build greater understanding.
A major feature of the evening will be the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) committing the participating communities to undertake joint research projects in the future. The initiative is expected to provide a framework for continued cooperation and academic and community engagement between Sikh and Catholic institutions. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, November 17, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Greg Craven Centre, Melbourne Campus. Organisers have requested that participants RSVP by November 4.
