Swaranjit Singh Khalsa Kicks Off Visionary Mayoral Campaign in Norwich with Governor’s Backing

Norwich, CT  — Swaranjit Singh Khalsa, Democratic candidate for Mayor of Norwich, launched a bold campaign this week centered on economic revitalization, community affordability, and downtown development—starting with a high-profile visit to one of the city’s most symbolic redevelopment projects.

The campaign’s first stop was the Reid and Hughes building, an iconic downtown landmark that has recently been transformed into a vibrant mixed-use space. Now home to 17 brand-new housing units and a series of commercial storefronts, the building stands as a powerful representation of Khalsa’s vision: a modern Norwich that maintains its historic charm while actively investing in growth. “This is exactly the kind of smart development we need—projects that meet our housing needs and empower small businesses to flourish,” Khalsa said during the visit.

Following this, Khalsa and his team welcomed Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont to the new campaign headquarters, where they were joined by Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz and State Senator Cathy Osten. The visit was a strong show of support from Democratic leadership, signaling broad party backing for Khalsa’s candidacy. “To have these leaders stand with our grassroots volunteers is an honor—and a sign that Norwich’s future can be one of unity and action,” Khalsa remarked.

The mayoral hopeful laid out his central campaign message: make Norwich more affordable for working families and small businesses by creating new good-paying manufacturing jobs and shifting the local tax burden. “Our plan is simple, but it’s not easy. We’re going to build a stronger local economy by bringing back industry and making smart use of our waterfront and downtown,” he said, citing aspirations to position Norwich as a destination on par with places like Mystic or New London.

Khalsa emphasized that this is not just about infrastructure or numbers—it’s about people. “We’re fighting for a Norwich that works for everyone, where opportunity is shared and growth is inclusive.”

As the campaign gains momentum, Khalsa says the team will continue engaging voters directly, building a coalition grounded in transparency, equity, and economic progress. With prominent support and a clear plan forward, Swaranjit Singh Khalsa is emerging as a strong contender in the race to lead Norwich into a brighter future
