Tarn Taran – Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Ravinder Singh Brahmpura on Thursday sharply criticized the AAP government in Punjab over a non-functional flood control helpline in Tarn Taran, calling it a “complete failure” of the administration amid a severe flood situation in the district.
Brahmpura, the SAD Vice President and a former MLA Khadoor Sahib, alleged that the government’s incompetence has been exposed at a time when residents are grappling with devastating floods.
“On one hand, people are losing their homes and belongings due to the floods, and on the other, the government helpline is ‘out of order,’ which is deeply shameful,” Brahmpura said in a statement. He claimed the situation revealed the government’s “anti-people face.”
While accusing the state government of abdicating its responsibility, the Akali leader lauded the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) for stepping forward to provide humanitarian aid.
He praised SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami for directing the setup of relief centres for flood victims at major gurdwaras in the district, including Gurdwara Sri Baoli Sahib in Goindwal Sahib, Gurdwara Chohla Sahib, and others.
“These centres have robust arrangements for langar (community kitchen), accommodation, and medical facilities for the victims,” he said, adding that “in times of crisis, only the Shiromani Akali Dal and Panthic organizations stand with the people at the grassroots level.”
Brahmpura also informed that he has written a formal letter to the district’s Deputy Commissioner, Rahul Sindhu, demanding immediate assistance for the people. In the letter, he urged for the prompt restoration of the defunct helpline and called for strict action against the officials responsible for the negligence
