Satire: Punjab’s “New Growth Model” — Borrow, Boast, and Blame!

When you’re already drowning, what’s another bucket of water? Punjab’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party seems to have discovered a magical formula for “economic growth”: when in debt, take more debt! With the state already gasping under a mountain of liabilities, the government has now announced plans to borrow another ₹5,093 crore between October and December 2025. It’s like watching someone sinking in quicksand — and deciding the best way out is to jump even harder.

By March 2026, Punjab’s total debt will touch a record-breaking ₹4.17 lakh crore. But don’t worry, say the politicians — “it’s all part of the plan.” Apparently, this is the “New Punjab Model,” where slogans and selfies replace fiscal management, and every problem is solved by printing another photo of the Chief Minister in the newspaper.

Meanwhile, the ordinary people — farmers, workers, and shopkeepers — are left wondering who will repay this mountain of money. Of course, the answer is simple: you will. The same citizens who get blamed for “not paying enough taxes” and “using too much electricity.” The leaders will move on to the next photo-op, the next foundation stone, and the next loan application.

At this rate, one fears that soon the government might proudly declare a “Debt Tourism Department,” inviting visitors to witness the world’s most creative way of going broke. But hey — at least they’ll inaugurate it with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a catchy slogan: “Vikas on EMI!”
