FRESNO, CALIFORNIA / CHANDIGARH — The North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) has called for complete transparency and due process following reports that forensic examinations have allegedly found two controversial videos involving Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to be authentic.
NAPA Executive Director Satnam Singh Chahal stated that in a democratic society, public confidence in institutions is strengthened when allegations and controversies are addressed through transparent, impartial, and legally established mechanisms.
“Public office carries with it a high degree of accountability. At the same time, every individual is entitled to fairness and due process. It is therefore essential that any forensic findings be made available through appropriate channels so that citizens can form informed opinions based on verified facts rather than speculation,” Chahal said.
NAPA emphasized that the increasing prevalence of manipulated digital content and artificial intelligence has made forensic verification an important tool in establishing authenticity. However, the organization noted that authenticity of digital material is only one aspect of any controversy and that context and legal scrutiny remain equally important.
The association urged all political parties and stakeholders to refrain from sensationalism and allow constitutional institutions to function independently. NAPA further stated that Punjab’s pressing issues—including unemployment, drug abuse, agricultural challenges, and economic development—must not be overshadowed by political controversies.
“Punjab’s democratic traditions are strengthened when public discourse remains respectful, evidence-based, and guided by the rule of law. Political differences should be resolved through democratic means and institutional processes,” Chahal added.
NAPA reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and democratic values while advocating for the welfare of Punjabis worldwide.
