Chandigarh(Sandeep Singh Chahal), Punjab Congress MLA Pargat Singh has called for an immediate investigation into the circulation of alleged AI-generated videos targeting respected Jathedar Sahiban, claiming that the content is creating an unhealthy atmosphere and could lead to unnecessary confrontation within society.
In a statement posted on social media, Pargat Singh alleged that over the past week, offensive AI-generated videos targeting Sikh religious leaders have been circulated by social media pages that he claimed are linked to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) IT Cell. He further alleged that these activities appear to be taking place under the direction of Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann.
According to Pargat Singh, the circulation of such content has the potential to disturb communal harmony and create unnecessary tensions at a time when Punjab requires peace and responsible public discourse. He expressed concern that the alleged misuse of artificial intelligence to generate controversial or offensive content represents a dangerous trend that could further polarise society if left unchecked.
The Congress leader urged Gaurav Yadav, the Director General of Police, Punjab, to immediately investigate the origin of the alleged AI-generated videos and identify those responsible for creating, distributing, and amplifying the material. He demanded that strict legal action be taken against anyone found guilty, irrespective of political affiliation.
Pargat Singh emphasized that technology such as artificial intelligence should not be used to spread misinformation, target religious institutions, or inflame public sentiment. He said that law enforcement agencies must act promptly to prevent the misuse of emerging technologies for political or social manipulation.
The allegations come amid heightened political tensions in Punjab surrounding recent controversies involving Sikh religious institutions and social media campaigns. Artificial intelligence has increasingly become a subject of concern worldwide, with governments and law enforcement agencies warning that AI-generated videos, commonly known as “deepfakes,” can be used to spread misinformation, damage reputations, and incite public unrest.
As of now, the allegations made by Pargat Singh have not been independently verified, and there has been no official response from the Aam Aadmi Party or the Punjab Government specifically addressing the claims. It also remains unclear whether the Punjab Police have initiated any formal investigation into the alleged AI-generated videos.
The controversy is likely to intensify the ongoing political debate in Punjab over the use of social media, artificial intelligence, and digital campaigns in public discourse. Political observers note that the issue also raises broader questions about regulating AI-generated content and ensuring accountability for its misuse, particularly when it involves religious figures and sensitive community matters.
