Thousands Gather in Sangrur as Congress Raises Punjab’s Key Issues. Leaders, Grassroots Workers Come Into Focus

SANGRUR, PUNJAB: The Sangrur Insaaf Rally on November 4 was more than just another political gathering. It brought Punjab’s political concerns into the spotlight and demonstrated the importance of organisational unity, collective leadership and grassroots participation. With senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge addressing the gathering, the event attracted considerable political attention. But behind the public speeches and prominent faces was an enormous organisational effort that deserves equal recognition.

A rally of this scale does not happen overnight. It requires days of planning, coordination, mobilisation and commitment from leaders and workers at every level. From bringing people together to managing transportation, local arrangements and logistics, countless individuals contribute to making such an event possible.

Special appreciation is due to Punjab Congress president and MLA Pargat Singh for his organisational responsibilities and efforts to bring the party leadership and workers together. Leading a state-level political organisation requires coordination among different groups, constituencies and leaders. His contribution to the preparations for the Sangrur gathering deserves acknowledgement.

MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira also deserves recognition for his involvement in Punjab’s political affairs and his participation in the collective effort. Gurinder Singh Dhillon (IPS) is another name worth acknowledging, along with Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla, whose contributions and involvement should not be overlooked.

There were also numerous other MLAs, former ministers, MPs, district Congress presidents, constituency leaders, local organisers and grassroots workers who played their respective roles. Many people worked tirelessly to mobilise supporters, arrange transportation, coordinate local activities and manage the practical arrangements required for such a large gathering. Their contribution is equally important, even if their names do not appear in newspaper headlines.

The presence of senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge gave the gathering national political significance. However, the real importance of the rally should be measured by the issues raised and the seriousness with which the party follows them up.

Punjab continues to face major challenges, including drug abuse, unemployment, farmers’ financial difficulties, law-and-order concerns, justice in sacrilege cases and questions surrounding the state’s economic and political future. These are not issues that can be resolved through rallies alone. They require consistent political engagement, practical policies and accountability.

The people of Punjab have heard many promises from different political parties over the years. They now expect results, clear commitments and leadership that remains connected with ordinary citizens. Political parties must understand that public gatherings create expectations, and those expectations must be addressed through meaningful action.

The Sangrur Insaaf Rally should therefore be seen not only as a political gathering but also as an opportunity to strengthen organisational unity and bring Punjab’s concerns into wider public discussion.

One important message deserves to be highlighted: credit should never be limited to a few prominent faces on the stage. Every leader, organiser, volunteer and party worker who contributed deserves appreciation. Pargat Singh, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Gurinder Singh Dhillon (IPS), Gurjeet Singh Aujla MP and the many other contributors deserve recognition for their respective roles.

A successful rally is never the achievement of one individual. It is the result of collective leadership, teamwork and the dedication of countless workers. Every contribution matters, and every person who worked to make the Sangrur Insaaf Rally possible deserves recognition.

Ultimately, Punjab must remain at the centre of the political agenda. The people are looking for justice, employment, security, economic progress and leadership that puts the interests of Punjab above individual political ambitions.
