Tarn Taran – Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Vice President and Halqa Incharge, Ravinder Singh Brahmpura, today visited the flood-ravaged village of Chamba Kalan to express solidarity with the affected farmers. Accusing the Bhagwant Mann-led government of ignoring High Court directives, he demanded that the Central Government bypass the state and directly transfer a compensation of ₹50,000 per acre to the victims.
During his visit, Brahmpura disclosed that the Hon’ble High Court has already ruled in favor of the farmers of Dhunn, Chamba Kalan, and Kambo Dhai Wala villages. The court had directed the government’s Chief Engineer to take concrete measures to protect the farmers’ crops from flood damage.
Addressing the media, Mr. Brahmpura stated, “It is extremely shameful that despite a clear judgment from the Hon’ble High Court in favor of the victims, the Bhagwant Mann government is turning a deaf ear. The administration is missing, and people are left to fend for themselves. We will soon submit this court order to the Deputy Commissioner and demand its immediate implementation. If there is any negligence, we will not hesitate to file a contempt of court case.”
Citing the “failure” of the AAP government, he urged the Centre to end its “step-motherly treatment” of Punjab. “Just as relief packages worth thousands of crores have been announced for Himachal and other states, immediate relief must be declared for Punjab’s farmers. We have no faith in the AAP government. Therefore, the Centre should transfer a compensation of 50,000 per acre directly into the farmers’ bank accounts, without any land ceiling (removing the 5-acre cap),” he demanded. He further suggested that instead of waiting for floodwaters to recede, the government should conduct an immediate assessment (girdawari) based on estimates, following the precedent set by veteran leader and SAD patron, Ranjit Singh Brahmpura.
He affirmed that under the leadership of party President Sukhbir Singh Badal, the Akali Dal will continue its struggle and provide all possible assistance until justice is delivered to the victims.
Present on the occasion were Amrik Singh (former Sarpanch, Chohla Sahib), Manjinder Singh Lati, Dr. Jatinder Singh, Dilbar Singh, Gurdev Singh Shabdi, Baba Balbir Singh Ghaina, Simranjit Singh Kaku PA, along with a large number of party workers and villagers
