MISSISSAUGA, ON — A routine traffic collision investigation has resulted in major drug trafficking charges and the seizure of narcotics worth an estimated $200,000, Peel Regional Police announced.
The incident unfolded on the evening of January 9 when officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Hurontario Street and Elm Drive around 11 p.m. The collision involved a black Hyundai Elantra and a black Range Rover Evoque.
According to witnesses at the scene, the driver of the Range Rover fled on foot immediately following the crash, prompting a multi-unit police response.
Aerial Pursuit Reveals Suspicious Behavior
Peel Regional Police’s Air Support Unit was dispatched and quickly located the fleeing suspect in the vicinity of the crash site. From above, officers observed the individual discarding multiple bags while attempting to evade ground units.
Working in coordination with the Canine Unit and the 11 Division Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB), officers apprehended the suspect after a brief foot chase.
Significant Drug Discovery
The abandoned bags were recovered and found to contain substantial quantities of suspected fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine. Police estimate the street value of the seized narcotics at approximately $200,000.
Following the arrest, investigators obtained and executed a search warrant at the suspect’s Mississauga residence, where they discovered additional methamphetamine and cash.
