Punjab’s Law and Order Collapse: Another Elected Representative Gunned Down

Punjab’s law and order machinery has failed its citizens once again, and the consequences are becoming deadly. Harpinder Singh, a Sarpanch from the Aam Aadmi Party, was shot dead in broad daylight during a wedding ceremony in Tarn Taran. This was not an isolated incident—it is a brazen attack on democracy itself. When elected representatives cannot even attend public events safely, the very foundations of governance are under threat.

The audacity of criminals today is staggering. Gangs are choosing soft targets, striking where they perceive minimal risk, fully aware of the law’s weak deterrence. This is not just lawlessness; it is an organised challenge to the state’s authority. The authorities must stop mere condemnations and deliver swift, uncompromising justice. Immediate and thorough investigations, public transparency, and a relentless crackdown on gang networks are non-negotiable. Punjab cannot afford to wait while criminals dictate terms.

Political narratives exploiting fear for votes are a disgrace to public service. Using such tragedies to score political points only distracts from the urgent need to act. Citizens demand safety, not speeches. Democracy cannot survive in an environment where bullets replace ballots. The government must act decisively: root out gang networks, ensure elected leaders and citizens are protected, and restore faith in the rule of law. Punjab’s future depends on immediate, strong, and fearless action. We must conduct immediate, thorough investigations, ensure public transparency, and pursue a relentless crackdown on gang networks
