London-Households across Britain are set to benefit from lower energy bills this spring, a move described as a major boost for working families amid ongoing cost-of-living pressures. Preet Kaur Gill, Member of Parliament in the House of Commons, welcomed the announcement, highlighting that putting money back into the pockets of working people represents meaningful progress in easing financial strain.
Energy regulator Ofgem has confirmed that the energy price cap will fall by 7% — equivalent to approximately £117 — from 1 April. The reduction is driven in part by government action to remove an average of £150 in costs from household energy bills. The measure is aimed at delivering direct relief to families facing high living expenses.
In addition to the Budget’s removal of an average £150 from bills, around six million households received the £150 Warm Home Discount this winter. The scheme was expanded last year to include all eligible households on means-tested benefits, ensuring broader support for vulnerable families during colder months. The combined measures are expected to provide much-needed financial breathing space to millions across the country.
The developments come as part of the government’s wider strategy to bear down on the cost of living, with leaders pledging continued focus on practical solutions that ease pressures on everyday expenses. The Prime Minister reiterated the commitment to support working households while stabilising the economy.
Alongside economic relief measures, justice reforms have also been announced to tackle the ongoing courts backlog. The reforms aim to speed up case processing, improve efficiency within the judicial system, and deliver swifter justice for victims and communities. Addressing delays in the courts has been identified as a priority to restore confidence in the justice system and ensure timely outcomes.
