New Delhi: A large number of ex-servicemen gathered at Jantar Mantar on Thursday to participate in a rally and dharna organised by the Indian National Congress to highlight issues affecting the veteran community. The demonstration brought together retired soldiers and supporters who raised concerns regarding the welfare, rights, and recognition of former members of the armed forces. Protesters said that veterans who dedicated their lives to protecting the nation deserve greater respect, security, and support from the government.

Former Additional Director General of Police Gurinder Singh Dhillon, commenting on the rally through a social media post, drew attention to the significance of the gathering and urged people to watch and understand the concerns being raised by ex-servicemen. He wrote that an “Ex-Servicemen Rally and Dharna at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, organised by the Indian National Congress… Please watch it,” indicating that the protest highlights important issues faced by veterans.

Participants at the rally stressed that the voices of retired defence personnel must be heard and their long-standing demands addressed through meaningful policy decisions. Several speakers also called for stronger welfare measures and better implementation of benefits promised to veterans.

Jantar Mantar has historically been a central venue for public protests in the national capital, where citizens and organisations gather to raise their concerns on national issues. The ex-servicemen rally added another chapter to the ongoing dialogue around the rights and dignity of India’s veterans.Organisers said the protest remained peaceful and aimed at bringing attention to matters affecting thousands of retired soldiers across the country. More reactions from political leaders and veterans’ groups are expected as the issue continues to gain attention.
