Jalandhar Cantt-Former Punjab minister and senior Congress MLA Pargat Singh has strongly criticised the Punjab government for allegedly failing to respond to important public issues raised in the state assembly. In a recent statement shared on social media, the Jalandhar Cantonment MLA said that the opposition has consistently raised several serious matters. Still, the government has remained silent and failed to provide answers.
Pargat Singh said that from questions related to the execution of revolutionary martyr Bhagat Singh to the issue of alleged fake police encounters at Panjab University, the opposition has been actively seeking accountability from the government. He also pointed out that matters concerning old-age pensions and justice in sacrilege cases in Punjab were repeatedly raised, yet the government has not given clear responses in the assembly.
The former minister further revealed that in January, he had written a letter to the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly regarding a serious issue related to a copyright strike. However, according to him, even the Speaker did not respond to a communication from an elected member of the assembly. Pargat Singh questioned the functioning of the House and asked what options remain for legislators when even the Speaker fails to respond to official correspondence.
Criticising the government’s approach, Pargat Singh said the “real issue” is that the government has no answers to the concerns being raised by the opposition. He alleged that instead of addressing the questions related to governance, welfare schemes, and justice, the ruling establishment is avoiding debate and accountability.
The statement has once again highlighted the ongoing political tensions in the Punjab Assembly, where opposition leaders have been repeatedly accusing the government of ignoring important public issues and limiting meaningful discussion inside the House.
