UK Government Unveils New Defense Industrial Strategy: Preet Kaur Gill MP

London- The UK Government announced its new Defense Industrial Strategy, a bold plan designed to position the country at the forefront of defense innovation while ensuring that the benefits reach every region.

Preet Kaur Gill, Member of Parliament, praised the initiative, highlighting the importance of strengthening the UK’s homegrown defense capabilities amid an increasingly unpredictable global security environment. “As the global situation becomes more dangerous and unpredictable, it is vital that our country keeps pace with the rapidly evolving technological transformation of warfare,” she said.

The strategy aims to expand the industrial base, reduce reliance on foreign suppliers, and ensure that the Armed Forces have access to world-class equipment produced by skilled British workers and businesses. “Our brave service men and women deserve world-class kit made by world-class British workers and businesses,” Gill added.

A key feature of the plan is its investment in skills and education. New defense-focused technical colleges will open, and graduates and apprentices will receive greater support to secure high-quality, well-paid jobs.

The Defense Industrial Strategy is underpinned by the largest increase in defense spending since the end of the Cold War, with allocations set to reach 2.6 per cent of GDP by 2027 and an ambition of 3 per cent in the next Parliament.

Preet Kaur Gill expressed her enthusiasm for the government’s commitment to domestic industry, innovation, and employment. “I am delighted the government are backing British jobs, British industry, and British innovators,” she said.

This strategy signals a significant step towards a self-reliant and technologically advanced defence sector, ensuring that the UK remains secure and competitive on the global stage.
