JALANDHAR — Congress MLA Pargat Singh has launched a scathing critique against the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab administration, accusing the government of severe administrative apathy as a crippling sanitation workers’ strike continues to impact urban civic services.
The ongoing industrial action by municipal sanitation personnel has brought waste collection to a complete standstill in various pockets, leaving large parts of the city dealing with heaps of uncollected garbage. The resulting accumulation of refuse has sparked widespread public health concerns, foul odors across neighborhoods, and severe disruptions to local traffic.
Accompanied by media personnel, MLA Singh visited multiple affected zones to inspect the ground reality before holding formal discussions with the Joint Commissioner and the Additional Deputy Commissioner. During the meetings, he strongly urged civil administration officials to urgently address the legitimate demands of the striking workers and clear the civic backlog.
“For the past several days, we have witnessed how this government has allowed the situation to deteriorate by failing to engage in timely dialogue,” Singh stated, criticizing the ruling Aam Azad Party (AAP) for administrative failure. Local authorities have faced mounting pressure from opposition leaders across the state as municipal unions demand prompt resolutions to core welfare and wage issues.
